Great architecture is decided long before the final drawing is signed off. Site orientation, daily routines, budget realities and local climate all shape what a building can become, and the projects that succeed are those where the constraints were understood early rather than discovered late.

Our planning phase begins with listening. We walk the site at different hours, study how light moves across it, and talk through how the space will be used on an ordinary weekday rather than on a photography day. That grounding lets the design that follows feel inevitable instead of imposed, and it removes most of the expensive surprises that surface during construction. Clients are often surprised by how much of the brief gets resolved before a single wall is drawn.

How early decisions shape cost, comfort and long-term value

Every project begins with a survey of what already exists: the ground conditions, the neighbouring buildings, the routes people already take across the site. From there we test several massing options quickly and cheaply, because it is far better to discard a weak idea on paper than halfway through a foundation. Once the direction is settled, detailed planning locks in the things that are hard to change later, including structure, services, insulation strategy and circulation. The result is a building that performs quietly for decades rather than one that photographs well and frustrates the people who use it.
